Abstract

Teacher education is the pivot of the education system of a country. Owing to its great responsibility
of preparing qualitative teachers- who in turn are the base for qualitative educational system,
as has always been said that no society can rise above the level of its teachers. This vital area
of teacher education have two facets, pre-service teacher education and in-service teacher
education. The pre-service teacher education deals with the preparation of the novel teachers
via the courses of B.Ed. and M.Ed. run in the various education universities in the country. The
other important facet that is in-service teacher education deals with the training and regular
orientation programme of the field teachers. It is here that the present research proposal was
undertaken to assess the actual need of the field teachers regarding their training needs, as the
government spends a fair budget to nurture the working teachers and orient them with the
changing demands of the profession. The present research aims at identifying the real needs of
these working teachers so that in accordance with it, an effective training module could be
developed so that the efforts and expenses incurred in it could find its real use
